Abraham “Abe” Vigoda, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025 at the age of 91. Abe is survived by his lifelong love of over 60 years, Elaine, children; Jake (Jib), Dorise, Rinna (Marc), and Eric (Soojin), grandchildren; Shayna (Tom), Aleena, Rachel, Alexa, Casey, Annika, Kyan, Arran, Kaella, and great grandson, Jones; all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly.
Abe was born in Tel Aviv in 1934 and never lost his lifelong connection to Israel, his beloved homeland. He was able to sing and dance in the streets when Israel declared independence in 1948 and he proudly wore a uniform and defended his country in 1956.
He arrived in America in 1957, putting himself through the University of Illinois where he earned an engineering degree. He briefly worked in Brooklyn, where he met and married Elaine. Together, they resettled in Rochester where he had an extraordinary career with Eastman Kodak Company.
All who knew Abe, adored him and respected him dearly. His mind was sharp as a tack and he was as strong as an ox. He loved traveling the world with Elaine to see family, friends and sights, playing bridge, poker and dominoes with friends, gardening, marquetry and working in the wood-shop to build incredible wood pieces for family, friends and the community.
Services will be held at Temple Beth El on Friday, October 31st at 10am. Shiva will be held at St John’s Meadows (Briarwood Building) on Sunday, November 2nd from 1-4pm and Monday, November 3rd from 6-9pm.
