Rochester – On January 30, 2024 at age 68. Predeceased by her husband,
Gary Bodine; parents, Juliet and Herbert Derman. Survived by her
children, Erin (Lee) Levin and Jamie Lee Bodine (Kriselle Rodricks);
grandchildren, Hazel and Ziggy Levin and Elle Bodine; brother, Scott
Derman; sister, Robin (Paul) Basel; niece, Rachel Basel.

Ava was a loving wife and mother, sister and daughter, and a cherished
Grammy. An empathetic and caring soul, she brought warmth and light to
the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. A natural nurturer,
Ava sought to enable others on their journeys. Her faith and optimism
served as a guiding light, helping her persevere through challenges
with resilience and grace.

With a heart devoted to service, Ava, educated as a teacher, embodied
compassion and kindness. Her laughter was joyful; she created a
welcoming atmosphere of acceptance wherever she went. Effortlessly
sparking conversations, she formed valued friendships with the same
ease that characterized her inviting spirit. Ava assumed the best in
others, and, as a result, she often brought it out.

Her legacy will be one of love, laughter, boundless generosity, and
extraordinary strength that will continue to inspire and comfort.

There will be a gathering in Ava’s honor at the Rochester Memorial Art
Gallery – Sunday, February 4th, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

In Ava’s memory we implore you to take care and be well: take actions
that bring comfort, connection, and joy.
