Beryl Nusbaum, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on November 16th, 2024 in Rochester, New York. The greatest pleasure of Beryl’s life was his loving family: his wife of 66 years Joan, his children Chad Nusbaum (Piali Sengupta), Mitch (Julie) Nusbaum, and Dena (Dave) Zack, his sister Mimsie (Art z”l) Eisen, and his sister- and brothers-in-law Sondy (Harvey) Burg and Richard Rosenthal, and his grandchildren Talia, Shayna (Connor), Zack, Sam (Katie), Hannah, Dahlia, and Eitan, who affectionately referred to him as “Saba.” He was predeceased by his parents Shepard and Fan Nusbaum.
A proud fourth-generation Rochestarian, Beryl graduated from Monroe High School in 1951. He graduated from Columbia University in 1955 and Yale Law School in 1958. Following law school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Reserves for 6 years.
In Rochester, Beryl joined the law firm of Woods Oviatt Gilman. He served for over two decades as the managing partner of the firm and loved it so much that he never retired. True to form, his last day at the office was this past Wednesday.
Beryl was an active and committed member of the Rochester Jewish community. Among the many organizations he supported, he served as president of Temple Beth El and was a long-time member of the Board of the Jewish Federation.
