Obituary for Donald Dunn (9/15/1926 – 10/15/2023)

Donald is survived by his wife of 72 years, Claire Dunn, brother Harvey Dunn and wife Margo, son Larry Dunn and wife Judy, daughter Eileen Popplewell, and daughter Allison Olding. He was a loving grandfather to grandchildren Seth Dunn, Robert Dunn, Brian Popplewell, Kimberly Shelp, Carlyn Percich, Diego Lombardino, Amista Mullens, Nicholas Reeves, and Jessica Brescoll, as well as great grandchildren Alice Dunn, Benjamin Dunn, Audrianna Popplewell, Karissa Popplewell, Heath Popplewell, Grayson Shelp, Kailey Percich, Olivia Percich, Zuhm Mullens, Xana Mullens, Lexi Chandler, Megan Reeves, and Lauren Reeves.

Donald was predeceased by his parents Reuben and Ethel Dunn, brother Jerold Dunn, and daughter Ruth Lombardino.

Donald grew up in Rochester, NY, served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II, and served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. While visiting his Aunt Rebecca in Cincinnati, Ohio, he went on a blind date with Claire Dratch and the rest is history. He transferred to the University of Cincinnati and married the love of his life on Sept 2, 1951. While raising his family in Cincinnati, Donald enjoyed doing photography and passed on this passion to his son Larry. He also loved to travel in his camper with his family.

Donald earned Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science Degrees from the University of Cincinnati. He worked at Cincinnati Millicron as a Research Chemist and Patent Agent until his retirement.

After retirement, Donald and Claire moved to Pittsford, NY where he continued to enjoy photography, traveling, listening to classical music, attending symphony concerts, and volunteering at the George Eastman House and at Cloverwood. He and Claire were active members of Congregation Etz Chaim.

Donald’s Graveside Service is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2023 at 2 pm at Pittsford Cemetery  (East Side) Map to cemetery There will be a reception after the funeral at Cloverwood Main Building in the Cultural Arts Room, 1 Sinclair Dr, Pittsford, NY 14534 from 3 – 5 pm Map to Reception. The remainder of the memorial week will be private.
