Esther S. Cohen, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on 12/23/20, 4 days shy of her 62nd wedding anniversary.

Esther was born on 8/26/31 in Rochester, NY, the only child of Sam and Mary Schreiber nee Marine. She overcame a difficult childhood which included residency at the Jewish Children’s Home followed by several years of hospitalization for Rheumatic Fever. Despite missing a great deal of high school due to illness, she graduated Franklin High School, Geneseo College where she earned a teaching degree, and went on to earn a Master’s Degree at Nazareth College specializing in Learning Disabilities. She was a valued Special Education Teacher for the Rochester City School District for over 30 years, during which she taught at numerous schools, had a tremendous impact on the lives of hundreds of students and made many life-long friends.

She was an extremely devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Hope Hall and providing child care for her two grandsons. She also enjoyed many wonderful trips with her husband, Manny. Esther was a beautiful woman inside and out, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to be in her life.

She is survived by her husband Manuel Cohen; daughter Rochelle Cohen Lempert (David); son David Cohen of Los Angeles, CA; grandsons Michael (Maggie Luddy) and Samuel Lempert; brother-in-law Bertram Frank of L.A.; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by granddaughter Olivia of L.A.

Services were held privately.
