Faith Lax, 94, a resident of Peekskill for 45 years, died November 29, 2022. Born in New Britain, Connecticut on November 3, 1928, the daughter of the late Saul and Bessie (nee Rabinowitz) Snyder, she had early careers as a legal stenographer and a professional opera singer, but her true passion was education. After raising her own children, she graduated from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a recipient of the school’s Chancellor’s Medal for academic excellence and continued on to earn a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Faith taught special education in the Peekskill City School District for over 20 years and was also an assistant tennis coach for the Peekskill High School Girl’s Tennis team, along with being an avid tennis player herself. After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed volunteering with the Northern Westchester Chapter of Hadassah, where she was a life member.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Harry Lax.
She is survived by her two children, Ythan Lax (fiancée Erika Goldsmith) and Hope (Mitchell) Behrens; her five grandchildren, Samantha, Aaron, Eve, Jarryd and Danyiel; her brothers Lester and Nathan and several nieces and nephews.
She is entombed with her late husband at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY.
