Florence Helen Prawer was born on March 13, 1928 in New York, New York to Alex and Eva Prawer. She died at age 93 on February 17, 2022 at the Jewish Home of Rochester.

Florence had an intense lifelong passion for learning and teaching. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hunter College in New York, also earning an Ed.D. in 1972 from the University of Rochester and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo.

Florence taught French and Spanish for many years at Fairport High School. After retirement, she tutored high school students and adults in French and Spanish and conducted many free classes at The Summit at Brighton where she was a charter resident.  She also presented classes at and attended the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York. She loved to travel and spent many summers in many countries with her very dear friend of 44 years, Leonore Mandelson.

Florence will be deeply missed by Lee Mandelson’s children, Dayle (Richard Tyson), Laura (Robert Katz), and Glenn (Mary Catherine); and their children (Rachel, Ben, Eric, Adam, Nick, and Josh) who greatly enjoyed her enthusiasm, tenacity, kindness, and generosity of spirit.
