Irene Levine (Goldberg)
Died peacefully at the age of 94, in Los Angeles, California, formerly from Rochester, NY on January 23, 2021, because of complications from COVID-19.
Irene was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Lester Levine who passed away in 2003, parents Barnett and Sophie Goldberg, and her sister Mildred Somers (Goldberg). She is survived by her daughter, Linda Horton (Arturo), granddaughter Carolyn Veis (Horton) and husband Andrew and great grandson Jack, nephews Lawrence, Jeffrey (Eve) and Arthur Levine (Judy) and niece Deborah Somers Spears (Eric) and numerous cousins and extended family in Canada.
Irene was born in Buffalo, NY after her mother and father emigrated from Toronto, Canada. She was a 1944 graduate of Ben Franklin High School. She was a full-time working mother long before the term was widely used. She worked at Rochester Linoleum and radio station WBBF, before moving to the West Coast in 1997. There, she continued her career as office manager at Evergreen Recording Studios.
She was a member of Temple Emanuel while in Rochester and an active member of ORT and Pioneer Women as well as sisterhood presidencies in Rochester and Los Angeles.
Irene always put her family first, and nothing gave her more joy. She will be deeply missed by all.
