Gordon Passed away on December 25, 2017, at the age of 96. Predeceased by her husband, Samuel; sisters, Kate Kashinsky, Flora Rothstein and Lucille Rosen; son-in-laws, Paul Siegelbaum and Gordon Pavy; and step-son, Peter Gordon. Survived by her daughters, Laura Siegelbaum and Margaret “Peggy” (Jerry) Swartz; grandchildren, Jill (Ryan) Cunningham and Katy (Michael) Flanagan; great-grandchildren, Rigby, Madeleine, Max and Cody; step-grandchildren, Jane Butler and Joshua Gordon; and several nieces & nephews. Isabelle was born to Nathan and Dora Poss in Brooklyn, New York on February 25, 1921. She graduated from Brooklyn College Magna Cum Laude in 1942 majoring in Economics and Social Science. She worked for the Department of Labor in New York City. Isabelle married Sam Gordon on April 12, 1945. She loved teaching and was involved in it her entire life. She taught in Louisville, Kentucky for over 10 years and Brighton, New York for 20 years. She also taught ESL as a volunteer to Russian immigrants for 18 years at the JCC and led a book club there. Isabelle had a lifelong interest and love of politics, current events, reading and teaching. She was a facilitator for a current events group, book club at the JCC and Summit. Graveside Services will be held TODAY-WEDNESDAY December 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM in Mt. Hope Cemetery. A celebration of Isabelle’s life will take place on May 27, 2018 at The Summit at Brighton. Donations may be made to Jewish Senior Life Foundation in Isabelle’s memory.
