Passed away on May 8, 2026, at the age of 70. Predeceased by her mother, Geraldine Appelbaum. Survived by her loving husband, Michael Cooper; children, Scott (Mandy) Cooper and Stacy (Brian) Roth; grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan, Dylan and Madison; father, Sanford Appelbaum; brother, David (Nancy) Appelbaum; sister, Susan (David) Cuddeback; nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of dear friends.
Joany and Michael’s story began at Camp Seneca Lake in 1970, and from that moment on, they built a life rooted in love, devotion, and family. Joany graduated from Syracuse University in just three years — determined to finish school before beginning the next chapter of her life with Michael. They married in 1977 and shared many adventures together, moving from Rochester to Phoenix, New York City, and Florida as Michael’s career evolved. In 1986, they returned home to Rochester to raise their family surrounded by those they loved most.
Nothing brought Joany more joy than her children and grandchildren. Their home on Canandaigua Lake became the heart of countless family memories — summer weekends filled with boating, laughter, celebrations, and simply being together. She created a home where everyone felt welcomed, loved, and connected.
Joany faced every health challenge with extraordinary strength and grace, never losing her spirit or her deep love for others. She gave endlessly of herself and carried a warmth, enthusiasm, and zest for life that touched everyone around her. She will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the love and joy she brought to her family and friends every single day.
Funeral Services were held privately.
