Joel David Sussman (Lt. Colonel) age 86 passed away on December 25, 2023 at his home in Clearwater, Florida. Born in Rochester and lived in Ontario, NY until moving to Florida.

Joel was a kind and loving man and husband, survived by his wife Yvette and faithful Khoya. He is survived by his step-son James, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, 2 nephews, Jeff of Rochester and Brian of Dover, Del. and a sister Roberta (Mickey) of New Mexico.

He was predeceased by his sister Sharyn of Arizona and his brother (CMS) Larry (Dianne) of Dover, Del.

He retired from Xerox Corp after 37 years. Joel was a pilot and was active in Civil Air Patrol (search and rescue) from his high school days until he retired as Lt. Colonel. He started shooting as a junior pistol shooter and trap shooter. Over the years he has won a multitude of shoots/trophies. He participated in “Sports for Israel” – Maccabiah (Jewish Olympics) in Israel in 1977, 1981 and 1985 where he won “Gold Medal” in “International Trap”. Previously he had won Silver and Bronze medals. He was entered in the Rochester Jewish Athletes Hall of Fame for winning a gold medal in 1985 following his uncle who had been inducted into the Rochester Jewish Athletes Hall of Fame years before. Also, Joel was honored by the Jewish Community Federation of Rochester in August 1986.

He loved traveling, camping with his RV and attending shooting events.

After moving to Florida, he became a volunteer for 20 years and worked in Protective Services (Anti-Terrorism). He was a member of Chabad.

Graveside Services will be held at Britton Road Cemetery on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
