Julia Aroeste, born 1927, daughter of Morris and Matilda Varon, who had emigrated to America from Izmir Turkey, passed away peacefully at the Jewish home on September 30, 2025 at the age of 98.  She was predeceased by her sister Stella Varon, brother Leon Varon, and her beloved husband Albert Aroeste.  She is survived by her son Joel Aroeste  (Gail) of Albany, daughters Lorraine Jacobs (Marvin) and Marlene Mamane (Lyor) of Los Angeles, grandchildren  Rachel Aroeste Sweer  (Matthew), Adam Aroeste (Anna), Molly Jacobs, Daniel Mamane, Gabrielle Mamane, and great grandchildren Elisabeth Sweer, Alexander Sweer, and Asher Aroeste,  as well as many nieces and nephews.

“Julie” was fond of creating wonderful traditional Sephardic dishes, and especially memorable large Passover Seders over the years.  After a busy day she would like to relax with her knitting in the evening.  There was always something to work on.  She volunteered at the Jewish Home and helped residents learn to knit and crochet.  She was active in the Sisterhood of the Congregation Light of Israel, and had a wide circle of friends.  Julia’s calling was to be a devoted wife and mother.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday October 3, 2025 at 11 AM in Britton Road Cemetery.  Please click HERE to view the Live Stream of the funeral service.

Donations in her memory may be made to Congregation Light of Israel.
