Lawrence (“Larry”) Bernard Silberg, of Pittsford, NY, passed away on January 26, 2023 at the age of 72 after a battle with cancer.
Larry was born on May 12, 1950, in Brooklyn, NY, to Harriet and Walter Silberg, and was the oldest of three siblings. After Larry graduated from Brooklyn College, he spent several years working on dairy farms in Western New York., ultimately matriculating into a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Pisa, Italy. During this time, he fell in love with the sport of road bicycling and made many cycling trips throughout Europe. After graduating with his DVM (and becoming fluent in Italian, a language to which he previously had no exposure), Larry moved to Rochester, NY, and founded the Veterinary Housecall Service of Rochester. He later went on to work at multiple veterinary hospitals in Monroe County. He concluded his career where it began – performing house calls with DoorBell Vet in the Rochester area. He was beloved by his clients and patients over his many decades of caring for animals and their families. Later in life he volunteered across the City of Rochester as a guest reader in public schools, and as a volunteer at the Rochester Museum and Science Center and R Community Bikes.
Larry is survived by his children, Mark (31) of Denver, CO, Claire (29) of Washington, D.C, and his sister, Judy (Eric Lyttle), of Mechanicsville, VA. He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Harriet, and his brother, Bob.
Larry gave generously to animal rights and environmental conservation organizations. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Farm Sanctuary (LINK) or the Humane Society of Rochester at Lollypop Farm (LINK).
