Martin I. Dater
Rochester, NY: Martin passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on December 11th, 2022 at the age of 74. Martin was watching sports in his favorite comfy chair in his Brighton home.
Martin was predeceased by his father Isadore Dater, mother Arlene Dater, and sister Bernice Dater, all of whom he is reunited with now. Martin is survived by his son Daniel R. Dater, daughter Marlena R. Gaby-Dater, step-daughter Rachel I. Greenbaum, and his beloved cat Misha.
Born in Rochester, NY, Martin attended Benjamin Franklin High School and graduated from the University of Rochester. He worked as an accountant for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance upon his college graduation and until retirement, and then was a tax consultant for the Wegmans Corporate Office until the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
As many who knew him are aware, Martin’s hobbies included movies (he was a regular at local movie theaters, especially his favorite The Little Theatre), sports (NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers, and the Philadelphia 76ers), and music (Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul Simon were some of his favorites). In fact, when Martin was out and about he often was mistakenly star-sighted for singer Michael McDonald from The Doobie Brothers!
Martin was a sweet, kind and silly soul, and will be greatly missed by many. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 from 2:30-5:30pm in Rochester, NY. If you knew Marty and would like to attend, please RSVP by emailing marlee.dater@gmail.com and more information will be sent to you. .
