It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Sheppard Weingarten 3 days shy of his 90th birthday. Predeceased by his parents David and Katherine Weingarten. Survived by loving sister, Annette Shapiro, niece Mindi Collom (Vance), nephew Michael Shapiro (Helen); great-nieces Nicole and Brooke Collom, several cousins and numerous colleagues and friends.
Marty graduated in June 1958 from the University of Rochester – Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Doctor of Law from Harvard Law School in June 1961. Then went on to receive his Master of Law from New York University Law School in June 1962. After graduating in 1962, he was a partner with Mousaw, Vigdor, Reeves, Heilbronner & Kroll, LLP; from January 1995 – June 2012 he worked at Boylan Code, LLP (formerly known as Boylan, Brown, Code, Vigdor & Wilson, LLP)
In 1971, Marty founded The Center For Youth Services and was the President for 17 years and remained active on the Board of Directors and several committees until his passing. The organization focuses on youth voice, social justice and removing barriers in traditional care systems. Marty believed that young people who were given the right information and support could make their own positive life choices and his legacy will continue for generations to come.
A memorial service will be held on Friday May 8th, at 11am at the All Seasons Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park located at 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY 14534. A reception will follow at the Damascus Shrine, 979 Bay Road, Webster, NY 14580. In lieu of flowers, to honor Marty’s legacy please direct donations to The Center For Youth, 905 Monroe Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620.
