Naomi Ruth Kalnitz
September 29, 1931 – December 13, 2024
Naomi Ruth Kalnitz passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and selfless dedication to others. She was the beloved wife of Jerrold (“Jerry”) Kalnitz and a devoted mother to her children Michael, Paul (with wife Julia), Nita Tobin (with husband Tom), and Robert (with wife Lyn). Naomi was also the proud and loving grandmother of Maya, Beni, Ido, Simcha, Rachel, and Daniel.
Naomi was preceded in death by her brother Nate Steinhart, but is fondly remembered by Nate’s wife, Arlene. She is also survived by her cherished brother Severn (Sholem) Steinhart and his wife Leah. Naomi’s warmth and generosity were treasured by her extended family, including her nephew Lorne, who lovingly said, “she had a laugh that launched a thousand smiles and a personality to match.”
Throughout her life, Naomi thrived on helping others and making a difference in her community. She dedicated herself to working with disadvantaged children through Primary Project and taught Sunday School at synagogues in Buffalo and Rochester, NY. Naomi also worked as a transcriptionist for a court stenographer and served for many years as the Rabbi’s secretary at Temple B’rith Kodesh.
Her life with Jerry was filled with joy, creativity, and laughter, which they passed down to their children, creating countless cherished memories during birthday parties, camping trips, and family gatherings.
Naomi’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the home health aides, the staff at Highland Hospital, and all those who provided comfort and care during her final years.
A celebration of Naomi’s life and laughter will be held in the spring of 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor her memory to make a contribution to Jewish Family Services of Rochester.
She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
