It was 1962 perhaps. A bunch of us from the “Jewish mafia” were playing flag football at Rogers Middle School in Irondequoit . Ritchie, or Chief as we called him ,was the quarterback. I was a horrible athlete. Every play we lined up, we went out for a pass and on every play I was screaming “Ritchie, I’M OPEN, I’M WIDE OPEN!!” No one on defense bothered to cover me. Then, that one time, Ritchie lobs me the softest, easiest catch in the world…..no one was near me….and I dropped it!! He never threw me the football again! But thanks Ritchie for giving me that one shot at fame.

I am sorry to hear about Richard (who I called Richie in those days). He was a very good friend of mine growing up in Irondequoit. I had not seen him since high school, which I really regret! My sympathies to his family. Mike Kaufman

Rich, we will all miss you. You fought a tough fight with losing your sight and then with Covid. You were a wonderful guy and will be remembered that way by all that knew you. RIP
