Bob is survived by his beloved family: his wife, Susan; his daughter, Magda Orkin, and her husband, Milt; and his son, Jordan Konig, and his partner, Jason, all of whom brought him profound joy throughout his years.

Robert Joseph “Bob” Konig, 83, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026. He was born in London, England, and moved with his parents to the United States at the age of 15, joining his grandparents in Rochester, New York, where they fled the Nazis through the Safe Haven program. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1966, where he was forever proud to be a founding member of RIT’s Beta Sigma chapter of the Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity. That same year, he met the love of his life, Susan, whom he married in 1967, after impressing her with a well-timed gift of Vita herring. Bob and Susan had 60 happy years together, raising two beloved children, Magda and Jordan. In their retirement, Bob and Susan traveled the world.

 Bob joined Cities Service as a chemist in 1966 and took night classes to obtain a Master of Business Administration from Seton Hall University Business School. Bob’s business career with Cities Service, and, later, American Airlines, took him and his family to New Jersey, Atlanta, Tulsa, Dallas, and Pittsburgh, before retirement to The Villages, Florida. Bob was an avid runner and, in retirement, found fulfilment in founding and leading a volunteer group, Temple Retirees in Mitzvah Service (“TERMS”) at Temple Emanuel of South Hills, Pennsylvania, and researching and writing a historical fiction novel, Of Good and Evil: Prelude to the Holocaust. Bob was passionate about Holocaust education. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum in Oswego, New York to continue his mission of keeping alive the stories of the Shoah so that it may never be repeated.

Graveside Services will be held on FRIDAY May 1, 2026 at 2 PM at Mount Hope Cemetery [1133 Mount Hope Avenue]. Friends and family are asked to gather at the Main Entrance across the street from The Distillery. A procession will follow to the grave. CLICK HERE for a map the cemetery.
