Robert “Bob” Oppenheimer, 95, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023. Born July 30, 1928, in Rochester, NY, Bob was a graduate of Oberlin College and Harvard Law School, discovering at the latter a lifelong passion for the law. Bob practiced law for most of his adult life, joining the Chamberlain, D’Amanda firm in 1955 and later serving as its managing partner for many years. Known for his honesty and integrity, he treated each client as if they were his only one. Bob was deeply involved in the Rochester healthcare community, representing Preferred Care for many years before it became part of MVP Health Care. He helped to found the Greater Rochester Health Foundation and served on its board and that of Unity Health System. For more than 50 years, he was also a member of Irondequoit Country Club, where he loved playing golf. Although he was very much a homebody who savored a quiet day reading in his green leather chair, he and his wife, Betty, enjoyed traveling together to destinations that included China, Japan, and Israel. Bob is survived by Betty, daughters Margaret and Susan (Tony) Oppenheimer, grandson Isaac Oppenheimer Brown, and niece and nephew Janet and Tom Oppenheimer. His parents, Clarice and Clarence Oppenheimer, and his brother, Jack Oppenheimer, predeceased him.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, October 29, at 1 PM, at Temple B’rith Kodesh, followed by a reception at Irondequoit Country Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Oberlin College.
