Rochester- On August 9, 2024 at the age of 80. She is predeceased by her father, Herman Schwartz; mother, Lillian Schwartz; and uncle, Melvin Rosen. Roslyn is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Bruce; sister, Frances (Mark) Roth; daughter, Holly (Jeff) Zeitz; son, Michael (Brenda) Rubin; grandchildren, Matthew and Cory Zeitz; nephew, Lyle (Dawn) Agins; her Florida extended family and the many dear friends, teachers and students whose lives she touched. She received her BA from Hunter College in Education and French and her Master’s in Education from the University of Rochester.
Roslyn impacted so many lives in her 60 plus years teaching French and Spanish at both the high school and college levels. The highlights of her career included teaching at Nazareth Academy, Our Lady of Mercy High School, Spencerport High School and most recently at Oser Lifelong Learning at RIT. She was the Department Chair of Foreign Languages at Spencerport High School and lead trips abroad with her students at Our Lady of Mercy High School.
She had a lifelong love of learning and spent several summers studying through NEA grants at Laval University and Duke University. One of her greatest joys was teaching at Nazareth Academy where she met her guardian angel and Holly’s godmother, Sister Francis Cecelia English. In her retirement if you want to call it that she continued teaching English as a Second Language for Mercy Bridges. One of her students, Jie Sung even named her daughter, Katherine Roslyn Huang, because Roslyn made such a difference in her life.
Her life could be summed up by the song that she sang at her daughter’s wedding, “L’important C’est La Rose.” The lyrics of the song emphasize that no matter what hardships you face, there is always the rose that makes life worthwhile.
If you find yourself all alone
And the knots of love have bound you
Though the clouds are around you
There’s the rose
Love will come and love will go
Do not waste another hour
There is beauty in a flower
Like the rose
