Saralee Stein is survived by her beloved children, Howie (Debbie Swartz), Peter (Amy), and Irene (Michael Small) and her five adored grandchildren, Eliana, Ari, Alana, Megan, and Yona; as well as her brother in law and sisters in law, Don and Linda Stein and Sue Stein.  In addition, she leaves her cherished nieces and nephews and extended family of cousins.  She was predeceased by her bashert, her soul mate, her husband of fifty years, Bob.

Born into an immigrant household, Saralee retained a lifelong fluency in Yiddish and a passion for Yiddish culture and Jewish traditions.  In particular, she was proud to carry on her parents’ devotion to the Arbeter Ring/Workmen’s Circle, especially as the leader of the I. L. Peretz School in East Meadow.

She was a brilliant student at the Bronx High School of Science, City College of New York, and the New School.  Her incredible intellect, memory, and curiosity made her a voracious consumer of crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and the daily news. She was the repository of so much family information and knew every birthday and every anniversary in the entire extended family.

We will remember her applesauce and gefilte fish, her selfless devotion to the welfare of others, and especially the joy she felt as a bubbe.

Donations in Saralee’s memory can be made to The Workers Circle (https://www.circle.org/give) or to an organization of your choice.

Zoom links for the shivas can be gotten by writing to info@tbk.org. Shiva will be held virtually on Friday from 2-3:30 PM, Saturday from 7-8:30 PM, and Sunday from 2-3:30 PM.
