Steven J. Gordon

Brighton – Steven Gordon died at home on Aug. 22, 2023 surrounded by family. He will be missed by his devoted wife of 40 years, Susan Gordon, and his children Amy Gordon (Mike Levere), Evan Gordon (Shayna Gilmore), and Brian Gordon as well as grandchildren Vivian Gordon-Levere, and Isaac Gordon-Levere.
Also missing Steve are his brothers, Mark Gordon (Shoshanna Kashdan), Ken Gordon (Madelein), and Scott Gordon (Rachel) along with nieces and nephews. Steve is survived by his father, Irving Gordon. Steve is predeceased by his mother, Virginia Gordon.
Steve was born in 1957 in Rochester, New York and attended Brighton High School before leaving for Northwestern University where he met, but did not yet date, his future wife. Steve graduated one year early and went on to graduate school, getting his MBA at the University of Rochester. He became a CPA and worked with his father before starting his own practice, Gordon and Chodak. Steve re-met Susan at a party in Silver Spring, Maryland. They moved to Brighton in 1985 into the house they lived in, and raised their family in, until his death.
Whether it involved business or personal matters, Steve never got a call he didn’t take and never met anyone who didn’t become a friend. He drove anyone, anywhere, for any reason.
He coached his sons in Little League to multiple championships. He served as treasurer of Temple B’rith Kodesh and more recently chaired the board of the Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts.
Steve had a gift for connecting people. Conversations often ended with him making a phone call on your behalf, to someone else he knew who you “should talk to”. His work brought him incredible joy, which he was able to put back into his community – a community he helped create with every phone call, meeting, lunch, and confiding chat. Always generous with his time and resources, Steve made sure others realized the possibilities that he saw in them. He touched innumerable lives and made Rochester a better place.
Work was a great source of pride. In addition to being a CPA, Steve was a Certified Valuation Analyst, a licensed real estate broker and an active real estate manager.
Steve provided his family with a legacy of caring for others, going for long lunches, rooting for the Bills, being nice to the cat even if you dislike him, never letting the gas tank go below a quarter full, and love. We miss him terribly.
We would like to thank our family, and Steve’s giant community of friends, who have supported him and his family during this difficult time.
Steven’s Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 25, 2023, 1:00 PM at Temple B’rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14618.
