Sylvia S. Harrison

Rochester – On October 18, 2023 at age 83. She is predeceased by her brother, Joseph Buff; sister, Rachel Barkin; nephew, Gerald Kleiman; and first husband, Alvin Glass. Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, David; daughter, Eileen (Kristofer) Singleton; grandchildren, Jacob and Elijah Singleton; sister-in-law, Shirley Harrison; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends.

Sylvia was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She started working at Rochester Telephone (now Frontier) in her early 20s and retired at age 62 from her position as a customer service representative in the business accounts department. Throughout her life, Sylvia made friends wherever she went and she kept them throughout her life. She took great joy in socializing with friends especially over meals and mahjong. She was very close to her daughter and grandchildren and also to her extended family. She was also a loyal friend to the countless people she met during her years at Frontier. Sylvia loved music of all kinds, from classical to rock and roll. And she loved watching vintage television shows, especially game shows of all kinds.

Sylvia’s Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 23, 2023, 11 AM in the chapel at Temple B’rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14618. To view the service remotely, please CLICK HERE. The family will sit Shiva on Monday from 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM at 70 Dunbarton Drive, Rochester, NY 14618 and on Tuesday from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Donations may be directed to WXXI or the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester in Sylvia’s memory.
