My deepest sympathies to Barb and family. Gene brought so much joy and humor to his friends. Hope he’s playing cards with my dad.

Gene and I became good friends during our volunteer work at Highland. He was always ready with a joke. As time went on our conversations included family, politics and cooking. But for the most part, it was about family, always about our grand children. I shared many of our conversations with my wife - except for the jokes! I will miss Gene in my life.

Fran and I are so very sorry. It was an honor to know him

Working at Highland, seeing Gene every Monday morning, being greeted as "Dear" with a bright loving smile was the most wonderful way to start the week. We connected as having friends in common (The Ledermans) as well as the fact that his daughter Andrea was my son's favorite teacher of all. He loved his family and friends and was beloved by all he greeted at Highland: patients, visitors and staff. He is already missed. With much love, jenny

I once learned that the traditional saying “may his memory be for a blessing” means that not just is the memory of him significant, but that the way he lived his life will encourage other significant blessings to be done by others. That is who I knew Gene to be— someone who was both a worker and a leader, and a true Tzadik. He was intelligent, kind, and so incredibly easy to talk to. My deepest sympathy to the whole family.

I'm shocked and saddened today. I spent many happy hours with Gene, playing golf in the Wednesday night league. For the record - Gene played better than I did, and when we really needed some points we would bring Todd in to help us out. Todd was our ringer. Often the best part of the evening was dinner after the game. Gene made friends with everyone and I loved listening to him kibbitz with the people around us. Few of us golfers knew that Gene volunteered at Highland Hospital. He was so great with the people who came in and needed directions. His warmth helped them when they really needed it. Family was everything to Gene, especially his grandkids. He loved keeping me up to date on the jokes they would tell him. Gene was special and I'm going to miss him a lot.
