Joseph J. Seeley
Penfield – Passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, at the age of 96. Born in New London, Connecticut, Joseph lived a life defined by devotion to family, service to others, and quiet integrity—often punctuated, when the moment felt right (and sometimes when it didn’t), by a dad joke.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Seeley, and his sister, Leota Mazzacane.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Beth Seeley; his children, Joseph “Skip” Seeley (Joan Seeley), Lynn Silver (and her late husband, Joseph Silver), Dorene Foss, Dara Seeley (Jason Myers), and Meredith Seeley (Conrado Manzano); his grandchildren, Amy Decker, Robin Charbonneau, Christina Seeley, Elizabeth Seeley, Finn Myers, Sadie Myers, and his grand-dog Benito Seeley-Manzano; many great‑ and great‑great‑grandchildren; his sisters, Marilyn Lugo (John Lugo) and Grace Lange‑Way (Ken Way); as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Joseph was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran and carried that pride throughout his life. He spent years working in the insurance industry, where he was known for his meticulous nature, strong work ethic, and people‑first approach. He believed in helping others find the right fit and in doing things the right way the first time—a belief he applied equally to work, family, and folding laundry.
Loving, gentle, and kind, Joseph was a steady presence to everyone who knew him. He was devoted and always ready to help, full of stories, thoughtful observations, and the reassuring sense that he knew a little something about nearly everything. After spending time with him, people often said simply, “He is a good man.” They were right.
Joseph enjoyed crossword puzzles, an occasional round of golf in his younger years, and the simple pleasures of daily life—especially coffee constantly, reading the paper, and time spent with his beloved wife. He liked things “just so,” whether it was a neatly folded blanket, something placed exactly where it belonged, or a bed made properly—one he especially loved getting into at the end of the day. When left to his own devices, he could be found playing solitaire on the computer, tending the patio trees and plants, or sharing a famously groan‑worthy old‑time idiom—delivered enthusiastically, publicly, and with complete confidence, regardless of audience reaction.
As a husband, Joseph was loving, adoring, and steadfast. As a father, he was often a quiet presence in the background—supportive, gentle, and reliable—always showing up, always willing to drive, always there. He was not above delivering a well‑timed over‑the‑glasses look when necessary. As a grandfather, he was known for his hugs, playful spirit, and adoring glances, making each child feel cherished.
Joseph will be remembered for his understanding, compassion, patience, and steady presence. Through example rather than instruction, he modeled empathy, how service to family matters, and how rewarding it is to give to others—especially if you can make them laugh while doing it. If he were reading this, he would likely nod, maybe adjust his glasses, and say, “Yeah, that’s right.”
