Died peacefully under the extraordinary care of Strong’s palliative care unit on Friday morning, November 4, three months short of his 100th birthday.
Dr. Lewis was a native Rochesterian, son of Mary and Maurice Lewis. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Harriet Fogel Lewis. He is survived by his daughter Ellen and her husband Jay Golden, and their son Daniel, and his daughter Judith (Otto Kucera, deceased), and her children, Deborah and Benjamin.
Dr. Lewis entered active duty in the army while still a student at Cornell University and upon early graduation was sent overseas to France and Germany. After the war, he attended University of Pennsylvania Dental School, and married Harriet. Four years later established his dental practice in Rochester. He was a skilled dentist, beloved and trusted by his patients, and prided himself on having a full appointment book from the beginning until he suffered one of the first and most severe cases of Lyme disease in Monroe County, and retired from practice.
Some years after the death of his wife, Dr. Lewis met Helene Friedman through a bereavement group, and their lives and the lives of their extended families were enriched by a close companionship until Helene’s death.
Graveside Services will be held on SUNDAY November 6, 2022 at 12:30 PM in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
