Herbert I. Levin
Whenever we think of Herb, it makes us smile. We remember him and my dad (Burt Freedman) truly enjoying each other's company and fashion choices. We think about how much Herb and Marie's friendship meant to my parents (Burt and Eunice) and it makes us so glad that their lives crossed at Osher.

Poppy is technically my great uncle, but to me he is Great Man and my grandfather in every sense of that role. He always took an interest in my life and I never had a negative experience with him...only when the ice cream was gone. I miss yelling at the phone just to tell him I love him and miss him. But for some reason he always heard those words and responded with "I love and miss you too". My fondest memories will always be staying at his house in Rochester, eating ice cream, and being with all my cousins/aunts/uncles and family. Family is what keeps us together and our family has its roots in a great man. Cheers to the man who was stubborn, but sweet. To the man that was caring and spoke his mind, the man that opened his arms and his house to all of us. The one that brought us all together. To my Poppy, We all love you and will never forget you. Till the day we meet again. Love, AJ/all Tutinos/all Abruzzos/all Levins/ and all friends and families you made an impact on.

Our Poppy, Introducing me to musicals is one of those lifelong things that will stay with me. He showed me my favorite musical and to this day I still play some songs from “Singin’ In The Rain” for my own enjoyment and also to my daughter. I remember sitting looking through photo albums of all the travels he and Grandma went on. Looking at pictures of Egypt or China and thinking how much fun it looked. My travels with Poppy were to NY with him and Grandma to experience the city and the shows. The thing about this pair together is how generous they are. Increasingly generous every year to so many. I have been blessed my whole life by seeing generosity to this capacity and it has even showered further down to my own children. It is a life lesson I want to incorporate into my character of living. I am so incredibly grateful for my Poppy’s generosity and seeing it firsthand. One of the funny memories that has stuck with me is one evening out at dinner. We went to a Japanese Hibachi restaurant; our fancy meal was always to a nice sushi or Japanese steakhouse. Poppy had some sushi and on his plate was pickled ginger, his entre, and a soft green mush. Poppy wanted to try it, and I remember him putting the whole ½ teaspoon of potent spicy wasabi into his mouth. It was probably not the best thing to laugh at it because I can only imagine the pain that came with swallowing that much wasabi but nonetheless it gave a laugh to the whole table. Grandma helped him cough through the stinging sensation as it went through his nose and even was able to get some water down for him. I think about those 10 hectic minutes of Grandma trying to calm Poppy down every time I have sushi now. I am going to miss Poppy. I am going to miss hearing about his “ice cream diet.” I am going to miss looking at his photo albums. I am going to miss looking at his picture of him in uniform on the wall in his office upstairs. I am going to miss every holiday card, birthday card, celebration, anniversary card signed with his name. He loved all of us like we were his own. He was a true man. A man that loved. A man that cared. A man that didn’t listen to anybody else even when they tried to warn this man that a spoon full of tiny green pudding would erupt like a volcano. I love you Poppy. - One that experienced your life and felt your love, Sam, Amanda, & Calla

Poppy is technically my great uncle, but to me he was a Great Man. He was, to me, my grandfather, in every sense of what encompasses a great mentor. He always had the most respect for me and all of his grandchildren. Im proud to call him Poppy and will miss his musicals and ice cream, the connection that connects all of my cousins/aunts/uncles. I miss yelling at the phone so he can hear me, but every time I spoke to him, regardless of him hearing me, he always expressed his love to me and my siblings and how proud he was/is of us. Thats the definition of unconditional love. He sometimes didn't know what I said, but it always ended with I Love You. To my Grandpa "Poppy", I Love You and will always remember your love, your stubbornness, your warming house and your presence. There is no replacement. All our love is yours. I hope you know that Love, AJ and all Tutinos/Abruzzos/Levins/And friends across the world

There is so much to say about Herb it is hard to find a place to start. He was a caring, generous person who had a smile for everyone. When we spoke, he always asked, “how’s your daughter, how’s your husband?” And he was truly interested in all of us and how we were. He was a voracious reader, spending time on current events, politics, and history. But as we all know his first love was musicals. For that we shared a common bond. We were fortunate to be able to see him often even though we lived on different coasts. Travel made it easy to stay in touch. Our most memorable trips were to Bermuda, Italy, and France. And such good memories they were. Herb was captivated by every facet of the places he visited and he took hundreds of photos to record those trips. He genuinely loved his family and friends and always made time for them. He will be missed.
